The Democrats of Colorado House District 29 welcome you to our website. We’re proud to call Westminster home. The district includes the northern part of Westminster. The southern part of the city is in House District 35.
We meet the last Thursday of the month on Zoom and we love to meet other Westminster residents who support Democratic issues, whether you’re a Democrat or Unaffiliated voter. Sometimes we meet in person, too. Send us an email and we’ll let you know how to join us! We also have a Facebook page and private group.
Congratulations to the winners of the recent municipal and school board races in Westminster. Claire Carmelia, our new mayor, received more than half the vote against two opponents. Obi Ezeadi and Sarah Nurmela were re-elected, joined by Jack Johnson to the City Council.
Rep. Shannon Bird, currently vice-chair of Colorado’s Joint Budget Committee and Appropriations, is one of the most influential reps. in the state house. She recently announced she will resign as the HD 29 representative in January to focus on a run for congress in CD 8. There will be a vacancy committee to fill the open seat after that. Precinct organizers from HD 29 will be on the committee.
The district is split between Adams and Jefferson County. In Jefferson County, Brittany Pettersen, former chair of Colorado’s House Education Committee, represents House District 7 in Congress. In the state house she passed the nation’s strongest Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, which is still a focus in the U.S. House.
Lindsay Daugherty (District 19 in JeffCo) represents the district in the Colorado Senate. FaithWinter (District 25, Adams County) tragically died in a traffic accident on Thanksgiving eve. There will be a vacancy committee to fill her seat on Dec. 23. P.O.s from the Adams County side of HD 29 are automatically on that. If you are a P.O. it’s very important to attend so we can have a quorum.
The best way to get involved is to become a precinct organizer. It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors and helps open doors within the party. Use the Contact Page to get in touch.
